We are particularly pleased to welcome three international guest researchers, visiting professor Irina Garbatzky (Rosario) and visiting researchers Anna Holian (Arizona) and Olga Zaitseva-Herz (Alberta), to Regensburg and to benefit from their shared knowledge in our diverse programme.

We are also delighted about the successful start of the speaker series organised by the Margins of Memory Research Network, led by Volha Bartash and Tatiana Klepikova. We cordially invite you to attend the next three events, starting on 11 December (16:15) with the talk by Lilia Topouzova (Toronto) on the Bulgarian Gulag. There are also two further talks in the research colloquium this winter semester, with Ilya Kalinin discussing Socialist Law of Energy Exchange: Fossil Base and Cultural Superstructure on 11 December (14:15) and Elena Kochetkova exploring Food Chemistry and the Soviet Quest for Development after World War II on 15 January.

We have extended the call for papers for our 2026 annual conference until 7 January 2026 and welcome further submissions on the topic of in/dependence and interdependence. We would particularly welcome contributions dealing with the histories of America, including the United States, in the context of independence movements and postcolonial dependencies. We are also interested in proposals focusing on contemporary debates on sovereignty and (in)dependencies, as well as more general work on infrastructural interdependence and its interaction with power, freedom, and sovereignty.

The Science Campus offers seed funding for collaborative research projects. Up to five projects can be funded with €2,000. Apply by 31 January 2026.

Finally, we are delighted to welcome applications to the 6th annual Area Studies Prize, which the LSC and DIMAS award each year to students who have completed a Master's, LLC or state examination at the University of Regensburg in the last two calendar years (deadline: 31 December 2025). Applications are welcome from students or their academic supervisors.
