Workshop | Josie Dixon: Writing Articles for International Publication in Peer-Reviewed Journals

We are delighted to confirm that the two-day workshop on Writing Articles for International Publication in Peer-Reviewed Journals by Josie Dixon will take place on 25-26 April 2023 (9:30-16:30 each day) at the GradSchool, room 122.

The Workshop is organized by the Graduate School and supported by the ScienceCampus, and is highly recommended to all PhD candidates, Postdoctoral researchers as well as to predocs.

PREPARATION

Participants are invited to submit a writing sample (up to 5,000 words) so that the examples and exercises can be built around their own work. Ideally the writing samples will be draft articles or part thereof; if they are not yet ready for that and are submitting a section from their thesis, it should be a section with an original research contribution (rather than literature review or methodology chapters).

For those who are not ready to submit a draft, you should bring along for your own use a piece of work in progress (project proposal/exposé, text for the Chapter-Workshop, etc.) on the second day, so that you can still do the exercises with reference to your own project (e.g. defining the readership, testing out the claims of your argument against journal editors’ key criteria).

However, those who submit writing samples in advance stand to benefit most directly, with feedback on your own writing, and the workshop works best with a good range of examples.

Submission of your working samples is kindly requested by 31 March 2023, by email to: graduiertenschule@ur.de.
